We don't even try to fight the truth anymore; that the most sought after, adored and beloved personalities on our little farm are the pigs. Our KuneKunes have more fans than we human owners do - by a significant factor. Which is OK, because we are just as enamored of their charms as the next person. This unique breed, recently introduced to the USA from New Zealand, is quickly gaining renown for it's stellar temperament qualities; docile, reliable and non-aggressive. And, as we have discovered - hysterically prone to displays of high drama. They are raised predominately as a meat pig, unique in that they graze - the majority of their feed should be pasture grasses and weeds, with fruit and vegetables rounding out the rations. Because of their dramatically shortened snouts, they do not root. Honestly - a pig that does not tear up the ground!!
Of course, the brilliance of this breed of pig is their extraordinary versatility. Marvelously hearty and adaptable, the fact that they thrive on pasture grasses makes them a supremely compatible choice of pig for any number of differing situations. They are relatively small; Sires will top out somewhere around 250lbs and sows closer to 200lbs, which means keeping a couple of KuneKunes as pets is entirely reasonable. Especially runts with special personalities.
On the other hand, KuneKune pig meat is absolutely exquisite - top notch all the way. Because they are a slower growing breed of swine, and they do best on a variety of grasses and orchard offerings, the flavor of the meat is beyond anything you will ever experience out of a traditional American pig, and the nutritional value is far superior as well.
  We currently have three different lines of Kune Kunes that we are breeding. Hobbs (Mahia Love) and Sunshine (Rona) were the very beginning of our swine breeding endeavor. Papered and pedigreed beyond what most of us would believe possible for a couple of... pigs.... this barnyard couple has proven their ability to produce stunning Kunekune offspring.
   Our Andrew boar, Huey Lewis, blew us away with his first litter sired in February of 2018 - absolutely incredible form and flashy color on his babies. We're thrilled with his output! Our final boar is from the Tonganui line and we're waiting for his first litter son.
We have carefully gathered in sows from a variety of Kunekune pedigrees, including Rona, Wilsons Gina, Kereopa, Mahia Love and Andrew.

Exciting litter - farrowed January 3rd, 2018; 1 boar remains available. Sire is the magnificent "Bruce Wayne" of Thorn Crown Farms, Oregon, and the sow is our beautiful girl Aurora (so these guys are Mahia Love x Kereopa).

Born March 12th, we have five boar piglets available out of our Wilson's Gina sow (Matilda) and our FANTASTIC Mahia Love boar (Hobbs). These piglets are genetic gems!
